Demonstrate the English capability needed for postgraduate study.

Understand the English-language evidence required for successful participation in AMU online postgraduate programs.

Ways proficiency may be demonstrated

  • An approved English-language test completed within the accepted validity period
  • Successful prior study delivered and assessed in English, subject to AMU criteria
  • Citizenship, residency or education evidence from an approved English-speaking context, where permitted
  • An AMU-approved language assessment or pathway program
  • Other evidence accepted under the formal English-language policy

Minimum standards

The accepted tests, minimum overall scores, minimum component scores and validity periods are stated in AMU’s approved admissions documentation. Different standards may apply to different qualification levels or research programs.

Additional assessment

AMU may request an interview, writing sample or further English evidence where submitted documentation does not sufficiently demonstrate readiness. An applicant may also be offered a language-development or preparatory pathway where available.

English support after admission

Academic-skills resources may help students develop academic writing, referencing, presentation and critical-reading skills. Such support does not replace the requirement to meet entry standards or complete assessments independently.

Documents not in English

Academic and identity documents issued in another language should be accompanied by an acceptable English translation. AMU may require certified translations and may verify both the original and translated documents.
